DESCRIPTION:The Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) in collaboration with the Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD) and the Global One Health Program are calling all Texas A&M University graduate students interested in helping prevent the next pandemic to apply for the 2018 4th Annual Pandemic Policy Summit Student Simulation. This half-day exercise\, as part of the TOP Grant\, will serve as the opening event for the Scowcroft Institute's 2018 Pandemic Policy Summit.\n\n This will be an experiential learning opportunity designed and sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute to bring graduate students together from various disciplines in order to respond to a simulated disease outbreak. The exercise will demonstrate the multidisciplinary efforts necessary to respond to such a global challenge and will provide students with the rare opportunity to collaborate with peers outside their colleges. They will learn to communicate across disciplines\, breaking down silos to foster teamwork and collaboration.\n\n The students will collaborate with experienced group facilitators to formulate a response plan to a disaster situation while using expertise from their respective fields to address human and animal health issues\, environmental concerns\, and threats to food and other resources. This event provides students interested in global health and pandemic issues with a valuable\, hands-on\, multi-disciplinary experience that will allow them to explore real-world applications of their field of study\, interface with experts\, and learn how their fields of study can be combined with others to solve complex issues.\n\n The Simulation will be Sunday\, October 14\, at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.\n\n All graduate students are invited to apply for the simulation. Students will be selected through the application and essay process. If you are interested in participating\, please fill out the below application. If you have any questions or would like additional information\, please contact Miguel Gonzalez at Miguel.Gonzalez@ag.tamu.edu or Dr. Leslie Ruyle at Ruyle@tamu.edu. X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:
